I scroll Tumblr and Substack and listen to podcasts and play dumb games (and sometimes Scrabble) on my phone as well as the worky bits. It's a toy and a tool. But when i make a concerted effort to put it down i get more real reading done and feel clearer. I just wish i could remember that! 😄

It’s amazing how different it feels, isn’t it?

Hehe, maybe I should put something on my lock screen like “shouldn’t you be doing anything else?” 😅

Great insights! I like to think I am not as tied to my phone as most people, but I do find myself losing an hour (or more if I am being honest) just scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, watching funny videos, Political stuff, and the gardening group. I have to force myself to put it down and get stuff done. Then I forget about it, and hours later, I can't remember where I put it down. Then of course the panic sets in until I find it again. whew! Then I think back to before cell phones - whatever did we do? We certainly were not available at all hours, we were never notified of anything unless someone left a message on the answering machine! Or snail mail. No wonder life seemed to be slower and we had more time for enjoying things, without the constant reminder of what we are missing out on, or things we should be doing. I miss those times, but at the same time its very convenient to just "google something" and get instant answers, always having the calendar of appointments and commitments handy. Trying to find the balance is the key. (still looking for that) :)

Yes, yes, yessssss to ALL of this. I too was trying to remember what I did before phones. I do recall having to print out maps so I wouldn't get lost trying to get around downtown Vancouver.
